What happens if my spouse refuses to pay a maintenance order?

A maintenance order issued by an Israeli court or rabbinical court is enforceable through the Execution Office (Lishkat Hahotzaa Lepoal). The Execution Office can attach the paying spouse's wages, freeze bank accounts, and seize assets. Persistent non-payment can result in the debtor's driving licence being suspended and, in serious cases, imprisonment. Enforcement proceedings can be initiated without needing to return to the original court.
