What happens if I get a civil divorce abroad without a get?

The civil divorce is recognised in Israel for most civil purposes (property, civil status). However, for religious purposes — including the ability to remarry under Jewish law — you remain married. You will need a get from a recognised rabbinical court before any future religious marriage is possible.
