How much deposit can a landlord demand in Israel?
Israeli law does not set a statutory cap on rental deposits, and in practice landlords typically request one to three months' rent as a security deposit, often secured by a bank guarantee (aval) rather than a cash payment. The lease should specify the exact conditions under which the landlord may draw on the deposit and the timeline for returning it after the tenancy ends. Disputes over deposit returns are among the most common landlord-tenant conflicts in Israel.
