Do I need a permit to renovate the interior of my Israeli apartment?

Minor cosmetic work — replacing tiles, painting, updating kitchen units or bathroom fixtures, or installing non-structural partitions — generally does not require a building permit. However, removing or moving a load-bearing wall, adding a mezzanine level, changing the property's designated use, or significantly altering plumbing or electrical systems may require approval. When in doubt, consult a licensed architect before starting work; the cost of clarification is far lower than the cost of an enforcement action.
