Can a small claims judgment in Israel be appealed?
Yes, but the right of appeal from a small claims judgment is limited. An appeal goes to a single District Court judge and is decided on the written record — the District Court does not re-hear the evidence. The grounds for appeal are narrow: legal errors, procedural unfairness, or a judgment that is plainly unreasonable on the facts. Routine appeals on the basis that the appellant disagrees with the factual findings rarely succeed. You must file the appeal within 30 days of receiving the written judgment.
