Is a settlement reached in mediation immediately binding?

If the parties sign a written settlement agreement at the end of the mediation session, it is binding as a contract from the moment it is signed. Verbal agreements reached in the session but not reduced to writing may be treated as binding agreements in principle, but the details and any conditions may be disputed. Always insist on a signed written document before leaving the session.
