Can I choose my own pension fund in Israel?
Yes. While your employer selects the default pension fund when you are first enrolled, you have the right to transfer your pension to any licensed pension fund (*keren pensia*) of your choice — this is a one-time transfer process called *havara*. Performance and fee data for all licensed funds is published by the Capital Markets, Insurance and Savings Authority, making comparison relatively straightforward. Similarly, you can choose the investment track within your fund (aggressive, balanced, or conservative). For workers who will be in Israel for several years, choosing a low-fee, well-performing fund is worth the administrative effort.
